The Making of a Mudroom.

The mudroom.  The catch all.  The shoe pile.  We needed one bad.  Like most families, we enter the house through the garage. Unfortunately that space was a carpeted hallway.  Not a good space for messy little boys and their muddy shoes.  

We started with demo of the current space, then we laid large floor tiles, and replaced the doors.

The idea for the space came from an "Ikea Hack" I had seen on Pinterest many times. We purchased a Hemnes TV console from IKEA (about $150) and a wide piece of pine board to make our bench.  Essentially we built the ikea console, left the top off and replaced it with a stained board to create the bench seat and added footers to extend the bench.

We love breadboard, so we knew we'd want to use that for the walls.  We picked out wooden L brackets to create a shelf and finished it off with oil rubbed bronze hooks.
